Economic Gloom Leads to More Home-based Businesses
The credit Crunch is prompting increasing numbers of people to start up and run their business from home, research has revealed. New Health & Safety Legislation Recives Royal Assent
The Health & Safety Offences Act 2008 has received Royal Assent. The Act will increase penalties for businesses and organisations that do not comply with health and safety from £5,000 to £20,000 and will widen the range of offences for which someone flouting the law can be imprisoned.
A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said the changes would 'further encourage employers and others to comply with the law'. The Act will apply throughout the UK and comes into force in January 2009.
The North Somerset Partnership
The North Somerset Partnership is the body that coordinates the aims of public, private and voluntary organisations in North Somerset. By doing this, it is hoped that they will work together to rationalise services and so be more effective.
It is apparent that smaller private sector organisations are not able to effectively feed their views into this process. The Partnership has asked the North Somerset Enterprise Agency, via the Business Club, to look into this and make some suggestions as to how the views of smaller organisations can be canvassed and fed back to the Partnership. It has also asked how the Partnership can feed its views back to the smaller organisations.
